Formula 1 meets Hollywood
With “F1: The Movie” now in theaters, Liberty Media is shifting gears — aiming to supercharge Formula One’s popularity, especially in the U.S.
Starring Brad Pitt as retired driver Sonny Hayes and produced by seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, the Apple-backed film spares no detail (or budget), reportedly costing over $200 million. Shot during real Grand Prix weekends with a fully staged team — pit crew, uniforms, and all — the film blurs the line between cinema and sport, offering unprecedented access to the heart of F1. Formula One already generates billions annually, but this is Liberty Media putting the pedal to the metal in the world’s biggest sports market.
