The key reason to stop investing is the need for money.
The “Consumer Monitor Investors” by the Authorities for Financial Markets (AFM) found some disturbing facts. Almost 25% of the people that stopped investing in the past five years claimed that they needed the money. More than 4 out of 10 of those who stopped had invested for less than five years. A large part of investors are execution-only (independent) investors.
In summary:
People choose to invest themselves to stay in control of their investments
Discontinuing to invest mainly comes from the need for money
Majority of investors does not look at costs
